How Much Does Quad Biking in Merzouga Cost?

Per quad or per person? What is included? A transparent explanation of how quad pricing works in Merzouga.

Key takeaways

  • The price of quad biking in Merzouga depends mainly on duration.
  • Check the price basis: per quad, per buggy or per person.
  • Make sure the guide, helmet and fuel are included.
  • Very low prices often mean shorter rides, shared groups or extras added later.
  • Booking direct with a local operator removes the middleman.

“How much is a quad in Merzouga?” is the question we hear most often — and the honest answer is: it depends on what you are comparing. Two offers can look very different on paper but cover a very different experience. This guide explains how Merzouga quad prices work, what should be included, and how to compare offers so you get the ride you expect.

Per quad, per buggy or per person?

This is the most important detail, and the one that causes most confusion. In Merzouga, quad tours are usually priced per quad. With us, two people can share one quad — a driver and a passenger — and they pay for one quad. Buggies are priced per buggy; ours are 2-seaters, so two people share one price. Packages that include a night in a desert camp, dinner and breakfast are priced per person, because each guest has their own place.

When you compare offers, always convert them to the same basis. A “per person” price that looks cheap can end up more expensive for two people than a “per buggy” price.

What changes the price

Duration

The main factor. Longer rides use more fuel, more of the guide’s time and more wear on the vehicle. A 1-hour ride is the cheapest option; a full day is the most expensive, but the price per hour usually goes down as the duration goes up.

Vehicle

Quads and buggies are priced separately. A buggy costs more than a quad — for the same duration, more than two quads — but it seats two people side by side with seat belts and a roll cage. See our quad vs buggy comparison.

Private or shared

Some operators mix different groups behind one guide. A private ride — just your group — is more flexible, and all our excursions are private. If only one quad goes out with a guide, a small single supplement may apply.

Pickup and extras

Pickup from your hotel, water, scarves or sandboarding may or may not be included. None of these are expensive, but they should be clear before you book.

What should be included

A fair Merzouga quad price should include, at minimum:

  • The quad and fuel for the whole ride
  • A helmet for every rider
  • A safety briefing and practice
  • A guide who stays with you the whole time

If any of these are missing or “extra”, factor that into your comparison.

Why the cheapest offer is not always the best

Very low prices in Merzouga usually mean one of three things: a shorter ride than advertised, a large shared group where you spend much of the time waiting, or extras added at the end. None of these make for a great experience. On the other hand, a high price does not guarantee quality either. Compare like with like: duration, vehicle, price basis, group size and inclusions.

Booking direct vs through a platform

Large booking platforms are convenient and offer buyer protection, but they add a commission and you often cannot ask detailed questions before booking. Booking directly with a local operator means you speak to the people who will guide you, you can adjust the plan easily and the full price goes to the local team. Whichever way you book, ask the same questions about duration, basis and inclusions.

Payment and currency

In Merzouga, the Moroccan dirham (MAD) is the local currency, but euros are widely understood. Payment options and any deposit are explained before you confirm — see our prices page for current details. There are cash machines in Rissani and Erfoud, but fewer in Merzouga itself, so it is wise to arrive with some cash.

Five questions to ask before you pay

  1. Is this price per quad, per buggy or per person?
  2. How long is the actual riding time — and does it include the briefing and transfers?
  3. Is the ride private for my group or shared with others?
  4. Are the helmet, guide, fuel and pickup included?
  5. What happens if the weather is bad or I need to cancel?

A trustworthy operator answers all five without hesitation. If the answers are vague, keep looking.

Budget tips

  • Couples on a budget: share one quad (one driver, one passenger) and pay for one quad.
  • Short on time? A 1-hour ride gives a real experience at the lowest cost.
  • Want more time in the dunes? The 2-hour ride is the duration most first-timers enjoy most: time to learn, then time to explore.
  • Planning a desert night anyway? A package like Quad + Night combines both in one booking.

Frequently asked questions

Is quad biking in Merzouga priced per person?

Usually not. Most operators, including us, price quad tours per quad and buggy tours per buggy. Overnight packages are per person.

Should I tip my quad guide?

Tipping is appreciated in Morocco but never required. If your guide made your ride special, a tip is a nice way to say thank you.

Is it cheaper to book on the spot?

Not necessarily, and you risk no availability at popular times like sunset. Booking directly with a local operator in advance is usually the best combination of price and certainty.
