Merzouga quad rental — with a guide
If you search for “Merzouga quad rental” or “ATV Merzouga”, what you will find in practice is the same thing we offer: you rent a quad for a chosen amount of time, and a local guide rides with you. That is not a limitation, it is the safest and most enjoyable way to ride Erg Chebbi. The dunes change shape with every windy day, the far side of a crest can be steep, and the best viewpoints are not obvious. Your guide takes care of all that so you can focus on riding.
Choose your duration — from 1 hour to a full day — and we provide the vehicle, fuel, helmet and guide. Compare our quad tours and buggy tours.
Automatic quad (ATV)

Our quads are automatic, so you only use the thumb throttle and the brakes. They are light and agile in the sand, and easy to learn after a short practice.

Quad controls, explained simply
If you have never ridden a quad before, this is all you need to know before your briefing. Your guide will show you everything again on the day, and you will practise on flat sand before entering the dunes.
- Throttle: a small lever under your right thumb. Push gently to go, release to slow down. Smooth and steady works best in sand.
- Brakes: levers on the handlebars, like a bicycle. Squeeze progressively — never grab them hard on a slope.
- Steering: turn the handlebars and lean your body slightly into the turn. In soft sand, the quad answers a little more slowly than on a road.
- Climbing a dune: go straight up with a steady throttle. Do not stop halfway; if you lose momentum, your guide will show you how to turn back safely.
- Descending: go straight down, slowly, with light braking. Never ride across a steep slope.
In a buggy it is even simpler: an accelerator and a brake pedal, a steering wheel, and a seat belt you keep fastened from start to finish.
Single quad or shared?
Most riders prefer their own quad: it is more fun to drive than to sit behind someone. Two people can share one quad — one driving, one as passenger — and you pay for one quad. It is ideal for a parent with a child under 16, or a couple where only one person wants to drive. If you want to share and both sit comfortably, a buggy is often the better choice. Tell us who is coming and we will suggest the right mix of vehicles for your group.
Which vehicle should I choose?
Choose a quad if you want your own vehicle and a sporty, motorbike-like feel. Choose a buggy if you want to sit side by side with someone and steer with a wheel. Our quad vs buggy comparison explains the differences in detail, including the price basis.
Quad rental FAQ
Can I rent a quad in Merzouga without a guide?
All our quad and buggy rides are guided. The dunes look simple but they change with the wind; a guide keeps you safe, finds the best routes and knows where the steep faces are.
Is “Merzouga quad rental” the same as a quad tour?
In Merzouga, “quad rental” almost always means renting a quad with a guide for a set time — exactly what our tours are. You choose the duration; we provide the quad, helmet and guide.
Are the quads automatic?
Yes. No clutch and no gears — just a throttle and brakes.
Do you provide helmets?
Yes, for every rider and passenger.
