Frequently asked questions

Merzouga Quad FAQ

Clear answers to the questions guests ask us most, so you can plan your ride without waiting for a reply.

We have collected the questions we receive every day on WhatsApp about quad biking and buggy tours in Merzouga. If your question is not here, message us — a real person from our team in Merzouga village will answer.

Prices, booking and payment

How much does a quad tour in Merzouga cost?

The price depends on the duration (1 hour to full day) and on whether you choose a sunrise, sunset or overnight option. All current prices are on our prices page, with the price basis clearly stated.

How much does a buggy tour cost?

Buggy tours are priced per buggy, not per person, and vary with the duration. See the prices page for every option.

Is the price per person or per vehicle?

Quad tours are priced per quad and buggy tours per buggy. If two people share one vehicle, they share one price. Packages that include a night in a desert camp are priced per person.

How do I book?

Send us a message on WhatsApp or fill in the booking form with your date, number of people and hotel. We reply with availability, the exact time and the price.

Can I book on the same day?

Often possible, depending on vehicle availability. Message us on WhatsApp.

How far in advance should I book?

One or two days ahead is usually enough. For sunrise and sunset rides in busy periods (spring, autumn, Christmas and Easter), booking a few days in advance is safer.

How do I pay?

Cash (MAD or EUR) on the day. No online payment is needed to request a booking.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

A deposit may be required in some cases; we always tell you before you confirm.

What is your cancellation policy?

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time. Read the full cancellation policy.

The riding experience

How long are the tours?

We offer 1-hour, 2-hour and 3-hour rides, half-day (around 4 hours) and full-day (around 7 hours) tours, plus sunrise and sunset rides of about 1.5–2 hours and overnight packages.

Can beginners ride?

Yes. Most of our guests have never ridden a quad before. The quads are automatic, every ride starts with a briefing and practice, and the guide adapts the pace to the group.

What happens if I have never driven an ATV?

You will learn the controls in a few minutes on flat sand before entering the dunes. Your guide stays with you and only increases the difficulty when you are comfortable.

Can experienced riders go faster?

Within safe limits, yes. Tell us your experience when you book; for confident riders we recommend the 3-hour, half-day or full-day tours, which include more varied terrain.

Is the ride private or shared?

All our excursions are private: your guide rides only with your own group.

Is there a single supplement?

Prices are for private excursions. If only one quad goes out with a guide, a small single supplement may apply.

How many people are in one group?

Your group is made up of the people you book with. For larger groups, we organise enough vehicles and guides — ask us for groups of more than eight.

Can we stop for photos?

Of course. Every tour includes photo stops on viewpoints, and your guide is happy to take pictures of you.

Is sandboarding included?

Sandboarding is available as an option — ask us when you book.

Can I ride a quad at sunrise or sunset?

Yes. We offer dedicated sunrise and sunset quad tours, timed to the real sun each season.

What is the difference between a quad and a buggy?

A quad is ridden like a motorbike, one driver per vehicle; a buggy is driven like a car, with side-by-side seats and seat belts. See our quad vs buggy comparison.

Requirements and safety

Do I need a driving licence?

No driving licence is required to ride a quad on our tours.

What is the minimum age to drive?

Drivers must be at least 16 years old.

Can children ride as passengers?

Children from 4 years old can ride as passengers. Under 16s ride as passengers with an adult driver. Tell us their ages when you book so we can plan the right vehicles.

Can two people share a quad?

Yes. Two people can ride one quad, one driving and one as passenger, and you pay for one quad. Our buggies are 2-seaters, so two people share one buggy.

Are helmets provided?

Yes, every rider receives a helmet and goggles. We also give you a small bottle of water.

Is quad biking in Merzouga safe?

It is safe when done properly: helmets, a briefing, a guide who sets the pace and a route matched to the riders. Read how we work on our safety page.

Is the activity suitable for families?

Yes. Parents can drive with a child passenger (age rules apply), and buggies are especially popular with families. Shorter rides and sunset tours are ideal.

Pickup, meeting point and what to bring

Where do we meet?

At our base in Merzouga village, Merzouga, on the edge of the dunes — or we pick you up. See meeting point & pickup.

Is hotel pickup included?

We can pick you up in Merzouga village and nearby hotels and desert camps. Pickup is free from some hotels; from others a small fee applies. We tell you which when you book.

Can you pick us up from our desert camp?

Often yes, depending on where the camp is. Send us the camp name and we will confirm.

How do I find the meeting point?

We confirm the exact meeting point when your booking is confirmed and send you a map pin on WhatsApp. Most hotels in and around Merzouga village are only a few minutes away.

What should I wear?

Closed shoes, long trousers, a light long-sleeved top, sunglasses and a scarf for sand. In winter add a warm layer. Read what to wear for quad biking in Merzouga.

What should I bring?

Water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a scarf, and your phone or camera in a zipped pocket. No driving licence is needed.

Weather and seasons

What happens if the weather is bad?

If strong wind or a sandstorm makes riding unsafe, we reschedule or cancel without charge.

What is the best time of year for quad biking in Merzouga?

October to April is the most comfortable. In summer, ride at sunrise or late afternoon. Read our best time guide.

Is it too hot in summer?

Midday in June–August is very hot, so we ride early in the morning and in the late afternoon. Sunrise rides are ideal in summer.

Combining activities and overnight stays

Can I combine quad biking with camel trekking?

Yes. Our Quad + Camel + Night package combines both with a night in a desert camp. We can also suggest a plan if you already have a camel trek booked.

Can I stay overnight in the desert?

Yes, with our Quad + Night in the Desert package: a private tent with private bathroom, dinner, breakfast and drum music around the campfire.

What happens to our luggage on an overnight package?

Bring a small overnight bag. Large luggage normally stays at our base or your hotel; we confirm the arrangement when you book.
